    Round 8 Finale of the Formula Drift Championship Leads to Wild Finish!

    The 2016 Formula Drift Championship season came to an exciting conclusion this past weekend, holding its final round of the season was held at the famous Irwindale Speedway or, as those in the know call it, the “House of Drift”. The sold out event was sold out and had over 600,000 online viewers watching from all over the globe!

     

    Thirty-two drivers prepared themselves in hopes of winning the final race of the season, but everyone’s eyes were focused on four drivers, each with a chance to win the sought after 2016 Formula Drift Title. Two-time champion Chris Forsberg led the championship standings with Fredric Aasbo, past champion Vaughn Gittin JR., and Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis all giving chase. With a 36-point lead over second, Forsberg, driver of the NOS Energy Drink Nissan 370 Z, had a solid lead coming into the final round. That lead was soon in question as Forsberg had an upset during his run against Patrick Mordaunt. Forsberg lost control and hit the outside wall preventing him from finishing the competition, giving Aasbo and Gittin a small glimmer of hope. They both battled hard for a shot of grabbing first in points. Unfortunately, Gittin was knocked out of the top 32 early, leaving Aasbo for a chance at the championship title. Aasbo, heading for an upset title win, made contact with Matt Field, preventing him from advancing to the next round. This gave Forsberg his 3rd championship title since Bakchis was too far behind in points.

     

    Now that the crown of the 2016 Formula Drift Championship had been settled on a winner,  the question remained on who would win the event at Irwindale Speedway. The final battle came down to aFe POWER sponsored Dai Yoshihara in his Subaru BR-Z, and Matt Field, driver of the Gears of War 4 Nissan S14. The final battle was a nail bitter as both teams wanted to win and finish the season on a high note. The stage was set for both drivers, in a two out of three face-off that would determine who would take home first place. Yoshihara was victorious in the first run, but he needed to come out on top again to take home the win. As Yoshihara mimicked every move Field made, a victory for Yoshihara looked obvious. Unfortunately, Yoshihara’s power steering broke on his second run, sending the aFe POWER sponsored BR-Z into the wall and cutting the run short. Field went on to win the season finisher of the Formula Drift series. While Yoshihara crashed, he still finished strong in second place at Irwindale Speedway, wrapping up the season in great stride taking 6th place in points.

  • Last Lap Pass Earns Johnny O'Connell 1st at Sonoma!

     

    This past Saturday's Pirelli World Challenge came down to an astonishing last lap pass. Veteran sports car champ Johnny O'Connell chased and caught young gun Austin Cindric to win at Sonoma Raceway. Cindric, the driver of the No. 6 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S, sat on the pole position from the start of the race while Johnny O'Connell, driver of the No. 3 Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V, started from third. 

     

    It was a game of chess on the track, as O'Connell stayed behind the McLaren throughout the entire race observing the faults in his opponent's vehicle waiting for the perfect chance to pounce. Austin meanwhile focused on running a perfect race, minimizing the chance of making mistakes. The 12 turn, 2.38-mile road course was a 50-minute event with a total of 31 laps ran during the race. For Cindric the event seemed to go on forever as O'Connell was lurking behind in second putting the pressure on the young 18-year-old for first. It all came down to the last lap on turn six. O'Connell found himself close enough to capitalize on the opportunity when Cindric lost rear traction in his McLaren 650S, this left the inside lane open for O'Connell to pass and beat him by 0.716 seconds for an exciting photo finish! 

     

    The race was Johnny O'Connell's 19th victory in the Pirelli World Challenge and coincidentally his 60th overall win as a driver for GM. For Austin Cindric, he continues to chase that elusive first win as this is his second runner-up finish in the year. 

     

    Round 20 and the final race for the GT and GTA classes will take place at the famed Laguna-Seca Raceway.

    BMW M2 Swaybars

    aFe CONTROL has developed a swaybar kit for the F80 series chassis. Designed to increase roll stiffness without upsetting the M2's natural balance or traction control systems. Perfectly balanced, the 32mm front and 29mm rear bars are lightweight, made from a tubular construction, and feature CNC machined TIG welded bar ends for a perfect fit. We also include CNC machined 6061-T6 sway bar bushing brackets that are anodized black and direct fit polyurethane bushings. Anyone can provide a stiff bar, but to maintain perfect balance is crucial to increasing corner speed.

  • Stage-2 Air Intake System 06-09 Jeep Commander (XK) V8-4.7L

    aFe POWER is proud to introduce the all new Magnum FORCE Stage-2 air intake system for the 2006-2009 Jeep Commander (XK) V8-4.7L engine, P/N 54-12602. This highly engineered system features a one-piece, durable 18-gauge, powder-coated top mounted heat-shield that snaps on to the factory air box bottom. This system also features a CAD designed intake tube to optimize the air flow to the throttle body. Improving airflow further is a large 7” tall washable/reusable conical air filter. The air filter frame is constructed using a 100% polyurethane for long life and multiple cleaning cycles. A clear coated aluminum cover is used to finish off this intake and add a sense of style to your engine bay.

    Rotational Molded Tube:

    This System uses CAD designed, dyno-tuned, roto-mold intake tube to achieve maximum power gains while maintaining a perfect fit.

    360° Air Filter:

    This intake uses a large 7" conical Filter with a 4" flange opening which provides 10% greater airflow over the stock intake system. The filter is constructed for long life and multiple cleaning cycles.

    Hassle-Free Installation: 

    All clamps, couplings, and hardware are included for hassle-free installation.  This is a direct bolt-on kit that requires no cutting or drilling on OEM parts.

    One-Piece Heat Shield:

    Sturdy 18-gauge powder-coated one-piece heat shield blocks performance-robbing engine heat. This heat shield requires no assembly and uses factory mounting locations for fast and easy installation.

  • aFe Releases an OE Replacement Filter for the 04-09 Toyota Prius Hybrid L4-1.5L

    aFe POWER introduces an OE replacement filter for the 2004-09 Toyota Prius Hybrid with L4-1.5L engine, P/N 30-10180. These filters are offered in two media: Pro DRY S for maximum convenience and Pro 5R for maximum airflow. These filters outflowed the stock filters by up to 17% providing performance without sacrificing protection. aFe POWER performance air filters are constructed using full 360° urethane frames. This construction allows for a proper OE style fit with excellent filter strength.

    aFe performance air filters use a rounded, evenly spaced pleat design which produces more usable filter surface area for increased flow and greater dust holding capacity.

    Progressive Bump Seal:

    This pliable sealing surface conforms to even the most uneven filter housing. This design eliminates the use of gaskets or sealants. The soft urethane construction always goes back to its original form so you will never compress the bump seal. This makes for a perfect filter fit and sealing surface every time

  • Magnum FLOW 2-3/4" Flange w/ 10° Angle Universal Air Filter

    aFe Power is proud to introduce a new Magnum FLOW Universal Clamp-On Air Filters (UCO).  This filter has a 2-3/4” Flange Diameter, 4” Base and Top, and is 7” High with a 10° angle flange. These filters are washable and reusable for multiple cleaning cycles.

    100% Polyurethane Construction:

    To allow for multiple cleaning cycles, the top and base are made of 100% pliable polyurethane that does not deteriorate with time or exposure to heat and chemicals.
