    Round 8 Finale of the Formula Drift Championship Leads to Wild Finish!

    The 2016 Formula Drift Championship season came to an exciting conclusion this past weekend, holding its final round of the season was held at the famous Irwindale Speedway or, as those in the know call it, the “House of Drift”. The sold out event was sold out and had over 600,000 online viewers watching from all over the globe!

     

    Thirty-two drivers prepared themselves in hopes of winning the final race of the season, but everyone’s eyes were focused on four drivers, each with a chance to win the sought after 2016 Formula Drift Title. Two-time champion Chris Forsberg led the championship standings with Fredric Aasbo, past champion Vaughn Gittin JR., and Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis all giving chase. With a 36-point lead over second, Forsberg, driver of the NOS Energy Drink Nissan 370 Z, had a solid lead coming into the final round. That lead was soon in question as Forsberg had an upset during his run against Patrick Mordaunt. Forsberg lost control and hit the outside wall preventing him from finishing the competition, giving Aasbo and Gittin a small glimmer of hope. They both battled hard for a shot of grabbing first in points. Unfortunately, Gittin was knocked out of the top 32 early, leaving Aasbo for a chance at the championship title. Aasbo, heading for an upset title win, made contact with Matt Field, preventing him from advancing to the next round. This gave Forsberg his 3rd championship title since Bakchis was too far behind in points.

     

    Now that the crown of the 2016 Formula Drift Championship had been settled on a winner,  the question remained on who would win the event at Irwindale Speedway. The final battle came down to aFe POWER sponsored Dai Yoshihara in his Subaru BR-Z, and Matt Field, driver of the Gears of War 4 Nissan S14. The final battle was a nail bitter as both teams wanted to win and finish the season on a high note. The stage was set for both drivers, in a two out of three face-off that would determine who would take home first place. Yoshihara was victorious in the first run, but he needed to come out on top again to take home the win. As Yoshihara mimicked every move Field made, a victory for Yoshihara looked obvious. Unfortunately, Yoshihara’s power steering broke on his second run, sending the aFe POWER sponsored BR-Z into the wall and cutting the run short. Field went on to win the season finisher of the Formula Drift series. While Yoshihara crashed, he still finished strong in second place at Irwindale Speedway, wrapping up the season in great stride taking 6th place in points.

These filters outflowed the stock filters by up to 17% providing performance without sacrificing protection. aFe POWER performance air filters are constructed using full 360° urethane frames.     aFe Power continues to innovate and introduce new performance parts such as the all new Super Stock air intake system for the 2007-14 Toyota Tundra with V8-4.6L/5.7L engines.   This unique air system stands out from other intake systems you might find on the market.  In recent dyno testing. This system produced an additional 18 horsepower and 30 lbs. ft. x torque while outflowing the factory intake by 18%.  What makes this system unique is it incorporates the OE airbox and an upgraded aFe  3 1/" madrel-bent wrinkle-black powder coated tube which improves volumetric efficiency for better performance.  Additionally, a serrated/helix combination design, 6061-T6 aluminum throttle body spacer  is included for optimum airflow into the combustion chamber.

    We designed this intake to incorporate key parts of the OE air box tract as well as to add upgraded parts to make this system a simple step up to achieving better performance.  The super stock is our "stealth-style" system that combines an OE performance replacement filter, tube upgrade and throttle body spacer to achieve performance while retaining the factory hydrocarbon trap.

    Performance Upgrades Features: Throttle Body Spacer: aFe includes a 6061-T6 Billet Aluminum Throttle Body Spacer designed to create intake turbulence in the combustion chamber. This turbulence breaks up the fuel which creates a more complete combustion cycle increasing horsepower, torque and improving throttle response. aFe Power's serrated/helix combination design also reduces intake whistle that occurs with other Helix only designs.

    Wrinkle-Black Tubing: This system incorporates parts of the OE air system, but uses a 3 1/2" one-piece mandrel-bent wrinkle black powder coated tube which allows for more volumetric air flow which directs unrestricted airflow for the massive filter for added performance gains.

    Performance Filter: The super stock air intake system comes in two filter options including the Pro 5R (oiled) or the Pro Dry S (non-oiled) filter media. This Pro 5R oiled 5-layer progressively finer mesh cotton gauze media for maximum performance. The progressive layering of media allows the filter to flow at high levels even when dirty. The Pro 5R filter media has been tested at 98.6 percent filtration efficiency. The Pro Dry S filter features 3-layers of progressive media to provide maximum flow with excellent filtration. The progressive layering of media allows the filter to flow at high levels even when dirty. The Pro DRY S non-oiled synthetic air filter requires no oils for cleaning for maximum convenience.
