  • aFe POWER Rock Basher Exhaust for the New 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL 3.6L V6


    Jeeps are the perfect vehicles to modify to go rock crawling. We here at aFe POWER know this, and developed an exhaust just for those who want to have the absolute most clearance from their Jeep exhaust as possible. Now just one week after taking delivery of our newly purchased 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL 3.6L V6, the Rock Basher exhaust was born. This exhaust is super compact, and uses the factory mounting locations for easy installation. Stock Jeep exhausts are known to be a weak point for rock crawling, mainly because of that huge suitcase muffler in the rear. With our system, that suitcase muffler is eliminated entirely, and the factory resonator is replaced with our short high flow muffler.

    We fired up the exhaust for the first time and were very impressed with the sound. It wasn't as loud as we were expecting it to be, but with sounded deep and aggressive. Perhaps most suprising was it's highway performance. The Rock Basher exhaust made the Jeep respond faster, and gave the exhaust a nice "burp" during shifts. We took the Jeep at highway speeds and were pleased when we didn't notice any droning whatsoever.

  • aFe POWER Adds Performance to the L5P Duramax Platform



    aFe POWER jumped at the opportunity to purchase the 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD equipped with the new L5P Duramax Motor. With stock horsepower numbers advertised at 445 @ 2,800 rpm, and 910 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm, we had to see what we could do to make those numbers go up. We immediately started development of an intake system for the new L5P Duramax. We started with the Momentum intake, and designed it to take advantage of the massive hood scoop that comes standard on all new 2017 and 2018 Duramax trucks. We made sure to add a large filter to help extend the cleaning intervals for the intake system, and developed the tube to eliminate any air turbulence as it travels through the tube. 

    When we put the truck on our DynoJet Dyno, we pulled in 15 horsepower and 37 lb-ft of torque with just the aFe Power Momentum intake alone. When we finished the Magnum FORCE Stage-2 XP intake kit, we pulled in 18 horsepower and 43 lb-ft of torque, proving just how much the L5P motor needs to breathe. We then developed our Scorcher HD Module to see just how much power we could get out of a stock system with just that modification, and were amazed when we recorded a 60 horsepower and 120 lb-ft of torque gain over stock. Combine both the module and intake together and the L5P really takes off from a standstill!

    With great power comes great heat, and it’s important to keep your ride cool with upgrades like our exhaust kits, differential covers, and intercooler tubes. Those upgrades will help keep temperatures low when you start increasing the horsepower, meaning greater durability and extended performance in hot weather.

    Now our 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD feels much more responsive and sounds great under acceleration. The truck feels much different than stock, and the amount of torque to the rear wheels really plants you in the seat as you take off. Add the simple plug and play Sprint Booster module to give the throttle body a 1-to-1 throttle response, and the new Sierra 2500HD/Silverado 2500HD feels the way it should have felt right off the factory floor!

    When looking for a performance computer tuner, it’s important to buy one from an established and proven brand, and the people at PSI power have been in the business for over 80 years developing tunes for all kinds of vehicles. Modifying the hardware on your vehicle like an aFe Power Intake, exhaust, and headers will increase the flow and get you more power than stock, but the true power of those upgrades is fully unlocked with a computer tuner. The stock computer tune will only allow for so much flow before triggering a check engine light.   • aFe Power at King of the Hammers 2018 Recap


    aFe POWER, the leading manufacturer of high performance aftermarket automotive products, spent a week at King of the Hammers in Johnson Valley California to support Jordan Pellegrino racing for GenRight Off Road. This year, Jordan took on racing in the 4400 Unlimited Class as car number 98. Jordan started out riding dirt bikes as early as age 3, and honed his skills offroading over the years, eventually moving up to Rock Crawlers. He has since made the podium multiple times in the 4500 class, and this year it was time for him to move up to the 4400 Class in Ultra 4 Racing. aFe POWER provided GenRight with our world-class racing air filters to give them the performance advantage that a race this grueling demands. King of the Hammers is an unforgiving one-day race in the desert to see who can run the track in the fastest time. Hundreds of drivers compete, but only a few actually complete the course. A week before the big race day, we hopped in our new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL V6 and headed for the desert about two hours away from our headquarters to be a part of the action.

    The weather conditions in the desert were perfect on race day, something that all of the drivers were relieved to see as they lined up at 6:30am on Friday for the King of the Hammers main event. The start of the race was at 8am sharp, and this group of racers didn't hold back. Everyone on Friday's race gave full throttle off the line, and took the first few corners at speed. There were many flips, flat tires, and crushed metal throughout the race. Jordan Pellegrino had at least one flat tire, and a few crashes that broke some crucial equipment in his rock racer, but after around 12 and a half hours inside his vehicle, Jordan Pellegrino managed to finish in 26th place. Only 29 people finished that day.

    Saturday, aFe POWER stayed for the GenRight jeep trail run, where over 250 off-road enthusiasts signed up to go out and view parts of the race course. Thanks again to everyone who signed up and received a free aFe POWER goodie bag! The weather on Saturday was not so forgiving as it was during the week, as high winds blew dust at us all throughout the day. Luckily, our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL handled the trails perfectly. Our new Jeep didn't even have 1,000 miles on the odometer when we were taking it over rocks that were bigger than our tires, and it still performaned like you'd expect a Jeep Wrangler to. 

    Overall every day out there in Johnson Valley that week was a test for every vehicle's off-road capability. We noticed improved throttle response when crawling when compared to the stock Jeep JL, and our RaceRunner shocks proved themselves more than capable of picking up speed in the dirt. For others though, air filters were working overtime, stock exhausts would get crushed, and stock suspension systems revealed their true capability. Lucky for those out there with aFe POWER on their ride, they could focus more on the trail knowing their ride is breathing easy.

     At the trail run, we had our Momentum cold air intake system prototype installed, MACH Force-XP High Tuck cat-back exhaust, 35 in. Yokohama tires on RaceLine wheels, and RaceRunner 2.0 shocks with leveling springs. This setup proved to be very capable on the trails, even without the Rubicon fenders that give a bit more clearance for the tires. Overall we look forward to upgrading our Jeep JL V6 even more to see its full capabilities when taken offroading on even harder trails.

  • aFe Power 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL 3.6L Cold Air Intake Development


    aFe POWER knows one of the best ways to get power from your engine is to help it breathe better. That’s why as soon as we purchased our new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited 3.6L V6 we had to design a performance intake for it. We spent hours mapping out and scanning the engine bay to get the most precise model to design the intake on. Then we spent even more time designing the intake system using the computer program SolidWorks.

    Within days, we developed a fully functioning prototype ready for testing. Over two decades of experience, along with our advanced equipment such as our 3D printers and production molds, helped us to develop the intake so quickly. Our first aftermarket intake for the Wrangler JL was the aFe POWER Momentum Intake kit, to give your Jeep aggressive off-road performance and protection from the elements while offroading. We then set out on producing our Stage-2 Cold Air Intake for the performance enthusiast looking to get the most flow possible, while maintaining a unique exposed filter look when the hood is open. We have multiple designs set to be produced for our new Jeep Wrangler JLU, one to suit every environment and driving style out there.

    Our preliminary tests with our cold air intakes on the Jeep JL look good, with solid power gained throughout the RPM range of the Pentastar 3.6L V6 equipped Jeep Wrangler JL. The sound produced from the intake system was also deep and throaty under acceleration, a noticeable change from the very quiet stock intake system. Improved throttle response could also be felt from just the intake change alone, which is a key improvement for any Jeep Wrangler.   • aFe POWER 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL 3.6L Exhaust


    Here is aFe Power's first cat-back exhaust for the new Jeep Wrangler JL 3.6L! We worked around the clock to design, bend, weld, and install this new cat-back system for the new 2018 Wrangler 3.6L only two days after taking delivery! Not only does this exhaust sound great, it gives your Jeep the performance it needs by eliminating that restrictive stock muffler and resonator and replacing it with our high flow aFe Power muffler.

    As soon as we took our newly purchased Jeep Wrangler JL out for a drive, we noticed that it was very quiet both inside and outside of the cab. When we were developing the aFe Power cat-back exhaust, we knew we had to give it a great sound to match the looks of the Wrangler JL, and we feel that we’ve done just that. Not only does this high-tuck design give you better clearance for off-roading, it’s lighter weight and increase in flow compared to stock means much better performance as well! When we put the Jeep on our DynoJet dyno, we recorded a solid 9 horsepower and 8 lb-ft of torque improvement just from the exhaust upgrade alone! 

    Outside the cab, our first aftermarket Jeep JL exhaust system produces a deep throaty sound, much better than the whisper-quiet stock exhaust. While inside the cab, you get to hear that 3.6L Pentastar engine breathe better and growl as you drive down the road. That means you can breathe a little easier as well, knowing your Jeep is getting the aFe POWER it deserves! 

    Our other designs for the Wrangler JL will be coming soon, such as our rebel series and axle-back options to match the variety of exhaust systems we currently offer for the Wrangler JK. Our goal is to provide you with the options you need to set up your Wrangler with the exact style of aftermarket performance Jeep JL exhausts to suite your needs best.   • aFe Control Releases Electronic Shock Delete Kit


    A big gripe for many Corvette owners is the fact that if you have Magnetic Ride Control (MagneRide) equipped from the factory, you were very limited on your options for upgrading your suspension with aftermarket race-oriented parts. MagneRide works by automatically adjusting the level of dampening in your shock by changing the viscosity of the Magneto Rheological fluid inside the shock with magnetic energy. This give you the option to have either a soft or stiff suspension at the push of a button, however this system is prone to problems and failure, and is not cheap to fix or replace. 

    The moment you swap your MagneRide shocks for a set of aftermarket coilovers without a MagneRide delete wire harness, your vehicle will throw a code limiting your speed to 80mph and a light will come on your dash. This is a common issue for those who want to lower their race vehicle or put on a set of high performance racing coilovers for example. 

    That is no longer an issue with the aFe Control Electronic Shock Delete (ESD) Kit developed in conjunction with PSI Power: a leader in aftermarket tuning solutions for racing applications. Our MagneRide delete kit features a simple plug-and-play design that will eliminate the suspension control check engine light and allow you to modify your suspension to its full potential with products such as our racing-tuning Johnny O’Connell coilover setup for C5 and C6 corvettes. 

    An ESD kit is not only good for upgrading to a race-oriented suspension system, it’s essential for anyone looking to either lower or raise their vehicle that is equipped with MagneRide stock. Some other vehicles such as Camaros and Cadillacs also offer MagneRide as a factory option, and our kit easily takes care of those platforms as well.

    Our GM style Metri-Pack connectors come with anodized extruded aluminum heat sinks and abrasion resistant braided wiring shields for the most durability and quality possible. Sold in sets of four (one for each shock), this is one of the key solutions you need to get those precious seconds shaved off your lap times.

     aFe Control has finished the development of our RaceRunner series of shocks for the new Jeep Wrangler JL! With sets that match both the front and rear, we have options that support lifts from 0 inches all the way to 5 inches for your Jeep. Featuring a simple bolt-on design, the RaceRunner Series is a great option to give your Wrangler JL much better off-road performance than stock!

     If you ride in a stock Wrangler JL, you’ll notice the suspension runs a bit on the stiff side. That is mainly because of the shock absorbers being tuned for on-road use, and not off-road use specifically. For those who plan on taking their Jeep off-road, aftermarket shock absorbers are a must-have option, and aFe Control delivers the best bolt-on solution with our RaceRunner line of shocks.

     Our engineers worked around the clock and produced the first matching front and rear set just two days after getting our newly purchased 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL 3.6L! Our game plan for these shocks was to give the Jeep JL a smoother ride over bumps and better offroad performance without complicated fabrication, cutting, drilling, or welding.  A culmination of all the years of experience in the suspension industry helped us design, build, and install these performance shocks in such a short amount of time.

     The handling of the Jeep immediately improved after installing the RaceRunners, and the beautiful look of the black anodized shock body makes the shocks visually appealing as well. Bumps and potholes that once jarred the Jeep when driven over now felt smooth and comfortable even at higher speeds. 

     This is just the beginning of our journey to upgrade the JL platform with high performance aftermarket suspension components, and we have plenty of options lined up to release for the new Jeep Wrangler JL soon.      aFe POWER is proud to have sponsored the SEMA Cares 17’ Ford F-250 Super Duty SuperCab XLT 4x4, which was built at the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, California. This special Super Duty was auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona on Thursday, January 18th. The truck sold for $115,000 and all proceeds went to benefit the Childhelp Children's Charity.

     We added our Scorcher HD Electronic Power Module and Momentum HD air intake system under the hood to help channel more air into the big 6.7L Power Stroke V8, and added our Large Bore-HD 5-in. DPF-back Exhaust System to dress up the rear of this beast.

     Those upgrades alone added 50 horsepower and nearly 100 lb.-ft. of torque, which brought the total horsepower to 397, and an impressive 817 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels!

     To date, SEMA Cares has raised more than $1 Million for charity. This year alone, SEMA Cares raised $95,000 from the sale of their Ford Maverick, and $75,000 from the sale of the Omix-ADA Jeep Wrangler JK.
