  • Turner Motorsports Tackles Watkins Glen

    IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship

    Sunday July 3rd, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. ET

    on (FS1) Fox Sports 1

Round 6 of the IMSA SportsCar Championship will take place at the famed Watkins Glen International Raceway. Both Turner Motorsport aFe POWER equipped BMW M6 GT3s will compete through an intense 6-hours of door to door racing action. This year drivers will be introduced to a newly repaved track surface which will provide high levels of grip, making for an exciting race to watch.

Here is what Markus Palttala (Driver of the Number 97 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3) had to say in a interview about the new track surface -

"It was a very useful day and we made good progress," Palttala said. "The biggest difference is the added grip of the new tarmac. Our M6 liked it and handled better than in the previous rounds. We’ve had great success at Watkins Glen before. I loved the track to start with – it’s a very cool layout and has a great rhythm – but now with the new surface, it’s simply awesome."

  • PA Construction Racing Team Debuts Two Cars at ACS

PA construction racing corvettes at ACS 1

The Tway Motorsports/PA Construction Racing Corvettes fought through a tough race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. With the debut of the #03 Corvette, the team aimed towards making it a one, two podium finish. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible this time around as the #03 Corvette had an engine failure on the last lap preventing him from finishing.

Here's a detailed race recap from Jim Tway (Team Owner) over the race weekend -

"After a year of rebuilding, I was finally able to race the #03 car again last weekend at Auto Club Speedway. Robert Hall also made his first race of the season in the #57 Corvette. Our two car team entered into the Super Touring 2 class for the race, while Robert also entered his car into the Time Trials (TT-1 class). Robert ended up winning TT-1 on Saturday and taking 2nd on Sunday. Great job for his first outing since last November."

    Saturday Race:

"Qualifying Saturday was tight, even more so was the schedule. Running 2 cars and time trials, we didn't have enough time to mount new tires and get to the grid early enough to be at the front for qualifying. Pre-grid is like a Southwest flight, first come first serve. We both had to deal with traffic during qualifying and were only able to put down 1:45 sec laps, while the front of the field ran 1:43's. We started 4th and 5th respectively for the race."

"I had full intention and driving like a mad man at the drop of the green flag. Most racers at Auto Club take it easy on lap one, going around the oval and brake way early for the turn into the infield. I had full intention of taking advantage to make my way up. Well, a mis-shift squashed those plans. I had dropped to 8th before we got to the start line. Luckily, my strategy still worked and I was able to get most of the positions back before we hit the infield, and I slotted in behind Robert."

"We ran hard for 2 laps until a BMW stuffed into the wall outside turn 4, causing a full course caution. This was great for me, because my oil and water temps were running high. We restarted five minutes later and got in 3 more hot laps until another BMW stuffed into the same exact wall. Officials threw the full course caution flag again and the checker flag this time. Robert would finish in 3rd for his first podium ever in a NASA Super Touring race, and I finished 4th."

    Sunday Race:

"I took the #03 car home Saturday and relocated my oil cooler and ran new lines hoping to fix the high engine temps. Confident after the morning warm up showed a 40 F degree drop, we were ready for qualifying. This time, Robert and I were able to start qualifying near the front and it paid off for me, running a personal best 1:42.7 lap, claiming the pole position for the race. Robert bested his Saturday time with a 1:44, and would start in 5th again."

"This time, when the green flag dropped, I shifted well and had the lead for the first lap, until Chuck got me at the end of the back straight. I didn't let him go and swarmed him for the next 3 laps. On lap 4 though, my water temp started to rise again. RATS! I had to back out of the throttle and get the car cool. I managed to stay within a couple seconds of Chuck, while keenly eyeing Oli's yellow Corvette in 3rd, which was getting bigger and bigger. He finally caught me and passed me. I got him back a lap later."

"With about 2 laps to go, I started to push the car again to catch Chuck and make a pass for the win. My plan was foiled a lap later, when my motor let go in a plume of white smoke on the back straight. Meanwhile, Robert had a tough time with some out of class cars and got caught in lap traffic. He would end up finishing 4th. There was a silver lining, I broke the Super Touring race lap record with a 1:43.2."

Below is an on-board race video from a fellow competitor. The video shows the great battle Jim (In the #03 Corvette) and Chuck in the #38 Corvette C6.

Next month the team heads to Buttonwillow Raceway.

  • Jesse Haines and SWAY-A-WAY Shocks Take the Win at Cedar City!

Team Superchips Wins at WE Rock in Cedar City

Jesse Haines wins the Unlimited Class at World Extreme Rock Crawling Championship Series in Cedar City! After scrambling to prepare his rock crawler for round one, Jesse had some time to dial in the suspension on his SWAY-A-WAY shock equipped vehicle for round two. The hard work and dedication resulted in winning the race.

Haines had this to say after the event “I’ve been working on the car and practicing as much as I can, and clearly it paid off for us this weekend!”

Jesse had a new spotter working with him this past weekend, Cody Folsom, they worked very well together with minor errors made during the entire event. Consistency earned the Jesse Haines team a 1st place finish out of 13 participants in the unlimited class winning by 53 points ahead. Congratulations to Jesse and his group, as it was a solid effort for the team. Our SWAY-A-WAY shocks held up to the ultimate test of durability and performance, helping him to secure the win.

The next race for Haines is the Old School Rock Crawl in Delta, UT, on May 27-28.

  • PA Construction Starting Strong in 2016

    PA construction racing corvette 1

With a busy start to the 2016 season, the guys at Tway Motorsports with the help of aFe POWER and aFe CONTROL have been running consistently towards the front. In the 3 race weekends with 6 races and 6 time trial events, so far they have a podium finish in every single race participated.

Back in February the team ran at Chuckwalla, taking outstanding 1st and 2nd place finish on both race days. At Willow Springs Raceway in March, they took home 2nd and 3rd place respectfully showing the team's solid effort that weekend. The next stop was at the famed Buttonwillow Raceway where the team finished in 2nd place on both days along with claiming a pole position. Racing in the SCCA series is no easy task, the competition is tight and leaves almost no room for error.

The PA Construction number 57 Corvette finished all within one second behind 1st place in the head to head events, while competing in the time trial races has rewarded a sweep of 1st in all 6 events. Next race in May at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. They plan on bringing a second car out of retirement, both equipped with aFe POWER and aFe CONTROL products to keep their edge over the competition.
